As part of its drive for sustainable development, the National Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment celebrates World Ozone Day – emphasising this year’s theme: “From Science to Global Action.” This highlights the essential role of science-based solutions in safeguarding the ozone layer and supporting global climate goals.

Thermaflex and Snow Engineering at the World Ozone Day Maldives
Central solutions for cooling, heating and hot tap water are great contributors to a more sustainable energy infrastructure powered by renewable sources.
Thermaflex, together with Snow Engineering, participated in the event and showcased the ultra-efficient, zero ozone-depleting, and climate-resilient district cooling solution implemented for the new Villa Haven Maldives Resort.
Key project highlights:
- The largest resort-wide district cooling network in the Maldives, maximising energy efficiency and eradicating the use of high GWP and ODP refrigerants.
- Integration of an advanced DAIKIN chiller plant and Flexalen® thermal pipe network, ensuring operational reliability and environmental performance.
- Use of R1234ze refrigerant: ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) and zero ozone depletion potential, aligning fully with the goals of the Montreal Protocol and HFC phasedown.
The unique design
Flexalen® pre-insulated pipes set the industry benchmark for both sustainability and performance:
- Made from safe, recyclable materials; Cradle-to-Cradle Certified®, contributing to the circular economy.
- Verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide transparent data on energy savings, emissions, and resource use, supporting low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure.
- Designed for district cooling, heating, and potable water applications, minimising energy losses and maximising system longevity.
