From dry‑dock upgrades to at‑sea replacements, ThermaSmart® Marine protects critical cooling systems in demanding marine conditions, helping crews keep operations safe and reliable.
ENGINEERED FOR EXCELLENCE
Princess Cruises
ThermaSmart® Marine 4.0 was selected for insulation upgrades on Discovery Princess during its scheduled dry dock in Singapore. Installed under tight dry dock timelines, the solution supported maintenance and upgrades to chilled water and air conditioning systems, with our marine trainers providing on‑site training, certification and project support to ensure first‑time‑right installation.
With its closed‑cell material, integrated vapour‑tight foil, and right installation, ThermaSmart® Marine 4.0 ensured reliable condensation control, thermal efficiency and protection against CUI in cold‑service applications operating around -10 °C in warm, humid conditions. The project demonstrates how a MED‑certified insulation system, combined with trained installers and on‑site expertise, contributes to consistent, long‑term performance on board cruise vessels.

Carnival Panorama & MV Aroya
ThermaSmart® Marine was applied on Carnival Panorama to upgrade cold pipe systems, supporting condensation control and consistent thermal performance. As part of the project, 15 installers from Trident BMC completed Thermaflex training to ensure correct application and system reliability.
On MV Aroya, Marine Technik Hamburg became the first certified German installer for ThermaSmart® Marine, applying the insulation to chillers and a DN250 main pipeline. These projects highlight the role of installer training in achieving durable, high-quality marine insulation outcomes.

New Build of MSC Cruises
For an MSC Cruises new build, ThermaSmart® Marine was applied during chiller pre-insulation at Johnson Controls’ facility in France, following hands-on training delivered to Nord Loire Isolation.
Pre-insulating chillers help protect equipment during transport and installation while supporting condensation control and mechanical resistance. This project shows how early-stage insulation, combined with correct application techniques, contributes to long-term system efficiency in modern shipbuilding.

Carnival UK & Norwegian Cruise Line
During drydock projects on Britannia (Carnival UK) in the Damen shipyard in Rotterdam, and Dawn (Norwegian Cruise Line) in the Chantier Naval de Marseille (CNdM) shipyard in Marseille, ThermaSmart® Marine insulation was installed across cold rooms, galleys and accommodation areas following the removal of rubber materials.
Installers from Carnival UK, Atlantic Refrigeration and IAQ Technology completed Thermaflex training and certification as part of the works. The glueless method and closed-cell insulation systems, helped them smoothly install ThermaSmart® Marine and meet the strict deadlines, ensuring long-term efficiency and protection against condensation.

Virgin Voyages
Aboard Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady, 14 crew members received specialised Thermaflex marine insulation training during an active insulation replacement project at sea. ThermaSmart® Marine was applied to freeze, chill and chilled water systems in multiple areas of the vessel.
The project focused on long-term condensation control and consistent thermal performance, supported by collaboration with W&O and the ship’s technical management. It highlights how onboard training enables crews to maintain insulation quality throughout the vessel’s operational life.
