After consulting residents, local businesses and performing several studies, the committee decided to retrofit the municipality with a locally supplied district heating network. A wood combustion plant would be able to supply the town’s houses, offices, schools, a hotel and even its 16th century church.

Connecting the existing neighbourhood to a new district-heating grid was a challenge, and dealing with narrow streets and existing underground infrastructure (water, sewage, electricity, telecom) made it especially difficult.
The wood fired boiler will provide a secure heat supply to municipal buildings, retirement homes, schools, college, and 117 private houses, saving 30% on heating costs.
Highlighted the first magistrate of the county.

Efficiency:
The transition from individual heating systems to a collective heating network, saves the end users 30% on their heating bills, according to conservative estimates.
Environmental:
The traditional fossil fuels used in the, often inefficient, individual heating systems, are now replaced by a single, highly efficient wood boiler. When wood is sourced from a sustainable plantation or forestry sector, it is mostly carbon-neutral as a tree absorbs as much carbon as it releases when burnt.
By co-operating closely with the contractor and installer, the project was realized perfectly within time and budget. The use of flexible Flexalen pipes, tailor-made connections and reliable electrofusion welding technology, ensured a flawless installation with minimal disturbance for residents and the existing environment. In addition, Thermaflex assisted the designers in network dimensioning as the unique Flexalen features enable optimisation in regards to network design. This resulted in a more energy efficient distribution network, with a lower overall investment cost, and a quick return.
