Behind Flexalen® Support: Interview with Tomasz Brachmański

From pricing calculations to design optimisation, Technical Support is where complex pre-insulated pipe projects become actionable. For engineers, designers and contractors working with pre‑insulated networks, Tomasz Brachmański shares how Flexalen® support has evolved at Thermaflex and what good technical support looks like in practice.

Why Technical Support matters in pre-insulated pipe projects

District heating and domestic hot water networks rarely fail because of one “big” mistake. More often, performance and installation issues come from small mismatches routing constraints, unclear parameters, incorrect assumptions, or missing coordination between design, sales, and production.

That’s where Technical Support becomes the difference between a concept and the delivered network. We spoke with Tomasz Brachmański, part of the Thermaflex Technical Support team, about his journey, the questions customers ask most, and the trends shaping pre-insulated piping solutions.

How the Thermaflex journey started

Tomasz joined Thermaflex in August 2017. Before that, he spent over seven years in a similar role at a different company, building hands-on experience, including expertise related to pre-insulated piping systems.

“I was looking for a position where I could fully apply and develop that technical knowledge,” he says. “Thermaflex offered the right combination of technical challenges and a close-knit team, so I decided to continue my career here.”

Additionally, two things stood out: the chance to work closely with colleagues across functions and the ability to use technical expertise daily.

“I was attracted by the opportunity to apply my technical experience and knowledge and to work in a close-knit, agile team.”

Work evolution

Tomasz’s role went from providing support in Poland to expanding to also other markets.

Today his responsibilities include:

  • technical support for sales teams and customers across European and global markets
  • tailor-made prefabricated components for project needs
  • technical support for new product development
  • creating tools that streamline collaboration between departments

What questions and challenges can our Technical Support solve?

There are no typical days in Technical Supportbut there is one constant: every project needs fast, precise answers.

One day might involve calculating prefabrication pricing, another supporting district heating or cooling projects, and another helping colleagues with drawings or technical input for new product development.

“It’s quite important to resolve technical issues. Often, we have to first resolve a problem that’s causing serious complications before we can prepare an offer or ensure the network is functioning properly.”

Requests pool is therefore big.

Expanding a district heating network while reusing infrastructure

For example, Tomasz recalls a project expanding an existing district heating network supplied by a biogas plant. The challenge: reuse existing infrastructure, extend the network, and keep it operating efficiently.

“We needed close coordination and network-optimisation tools to find the right hydraulic solution,” he explains.

Our Technical Support is not only answering questions, it’s aligning real-world constraints (existing assets, routing, hydraulics) with a design that can be executed.

Routing in a confined space with non-standard prefab components

Another case involved routing a heating network through a very limited space. Standard components wouldn’t fit, so the team relied on tailored prefabricated parts and close coordination.

“Our production capabilities and close cooperation between the sales representatives and the prefab department enabled a feasible, compact solution.”

Projects like this prove, that although sometimes space constraints are the main risk and limitation, Technical Support and prefabricated components can provide actionable solutions without forcing unrealistic routing.

What makes Flexalen® different?

In Tomasz’s view, Flexalen® stands out because it’s treated as a complete system rather than a set of disconnected parts.

“Flexalen is technically unique because it’s a complete system offering all necessary components for turnkey solutions,” he says. “Equally important is our customer-focused approach – every project is treated individually, and we can manufacture tailor-made components to match specific needs.”

He also recognised local trends, for example in Poland Flexalen® is most commonly used for district heating networks and domestic hot water supply, especially Flexalen® 600 systems.

Tomasz also points to two clear directions of recent trends:

  1. more small-scale district heating networks fed from local boiler plants
  2. a rise in low-temperature heat sources – supporting broader use of plastic pre-insulated pipes instead of steel

What you can expect when you contact us

“Finding a technically optimal solution that is easy to implement and reliable for years to come” is one of many unique skills that Technical Support has to offer. The long-term vision is important but so are:

  • proficiency with network design and optimisation software
  • ability to use graphic/CAD programs for technical drawings
  • strong general technical knowledge
  • willingness to learn and be up-to-date with the changes in the product specifications, law and industry
  • communication and teamwork to coordinate with sales and production

How to balance them?

“With professionals I keep technical accuracy – using precise data, calculations and industry terms,” Tomasz says. “For end customers I translate technical points into simple, practical advice: I avoid jargon, use clear analogies, provide visuals or drawings, and confirm understanding by asking questions.”

Turn technical questions into reliable projects

Pre‑insulated pipe projects often get stuck on details like routing, existing networks and local standards. Our Technical Support team helps you solve these issues early, so you avoid mismatches, delays and rework.
